Frequently Asked Questions About Our Services

01

Do you take insurance?

We accept the UC Berkeley Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Otherwise, we do not take insurance directly, and are considered an out-of-network provider. Dr. Crovetti is able to provide patients with an itemized "superbill" upon request which can then be submitted to the insurance company. However, we cannot guarantee reimbursement for the services provided. Clients are encouraged to check with their insurance carrier in advance of the services being provided.  Some carriers require "pre-approval" for both therapy and neuropsychological evaluations. Dr. Crovetti is happy to discuss this process with you should it arise.

03

Which days of the week and times do you provide services?

Weekends are a preferred time for services to avoid clients missing work or school; however, weekday times may be available.

02

Do you see patients in person or virtually?

Assessment sessions are in person in either our Berkeley or Oakland office. Therapy sessions may be virtual or in person. Some clients choose a combination of in person and virtual sessions.

04

How much do you charge?

Comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations are billed at a flat fee, which is paid as follows: Ten percent at the beginning  to hold assessment slots and the remainder paid in thirds over the course of the assessment process (1st testing session, 2nd testing session, and at the time the report is presented to the parents/client).

In some cases a comprehensive evaluation is not necessary and the fee will be adjusted accordingly.

Therapy and consultations are billed at a set rate per 50-minute session. Psychotherapy sessions are $310 for a 50 minute session.

Frequently Asked Questions Abou Assessment

01

How do I know if a neuropsychological evaluation is necessary?

There are many factors to consider in deciding whether or not a neuropsychological assessment is appropriate for you or your child. Dr. Crovetti is happy to discuss your situation and answer any questions you might have so that we may determine if our services are a good fit for you/your family.

02

Is a neuropsychological evaluation the same thing as a psychoeducational evaluation?

In out practice, we use these terms interchangeably. In general, there is a great deal of overlap between these two types of assessment. For example, they use many of the same assessment tools and approaches. While a “neuropsychological assessment” might involve more of an emphasis on understanding the relationship between brain functioning and learning and behavior, a “psychoeducational assessment” might involve more of an emphasis on academic functioning and understanding school performance and specific school-based interventions and accommodations, it is not uncommon for both approaches to provide equal emphasis in these areas.

03

What is a typical assessment process like?

A typical assessment begins with an introductory interview and the parent/client completing a comprehensive history questionnaire. This is followed by two to four in person assessment sessions of two to four hours in length, a feedback session, and a follow up session. Assessment of school aged children often includes a classroom observation.

Assessment sessions usually involve administration of standardized instruments that allow measurement of intellectual functioning, processing skills such as attention, memory, auditory and visual processing, and executive functioning, academic functioning, and social and emotional functioning. Throughout the assessment process, we are in close contact with parents, often checking in with further questions and sharing information that might arise as we work with their child.

Children are included in the feedback sessions in order to facilitate their understanding of their strengths and weaknesses and to build confidence and motivation to use strategies that will support their optimal functioning.  A school meeting at which we help present findings to a school team is often a part of our service as is a follow up session tailored to the interests of the family/client.  No two assessments are exactly alike; they are tailored to the specific needs and questions presented by each client.
